All over the developed world, people are re-discovering that singing is good for you. Indigenous and intact cultures have known this for centuries. Songs have carried, and still carry, culture: wisdom, knowledge, history - and the joys, struggles and sorrows of the people. Songs are a vehicle for expression and a container for emotion. Singing can also cross language barriers & religious barriers as well. Choral Music inspires, exalts, soothes, and admonishes listeners; and can transform the ‘ordinary’ to the ‘extraordinary’. When people sing together, they often find the experience meaningful, energising and refreshing, and they come away with hope, a lift of spirit and a sense of belonging.
Music comes from the heart and can have so many benefits for communities including:

From 30 September 2009 the 61st Intervarsity Choral Festival Canberra (CIV) Inc became a Registered Gift Recipient with the Australian Tax Office. This means that a donation of $2.00 or over made to the 61st AIVCF Public Fund can be used as a tax deduction by the donor.
The donation could be $2, $200 or $2 million and the Festival will send the donor a tax receipt listing the amount of the donation. The donor can then list this donation on their tax return for the year that the donation was made and receive a reduction in the amount of tax to be paid in that year.
The 61st AIVCF Public Fund was set up to enable the organisation to accept tax deductible donations. The fund is listed on the Register of Cultural Organisations (ROCO) under Sub-section 30B of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1977.
In order to comply with the guidelines of ROCO, the Festival has a Public Fund Committee. This Committee ensures that funds are used appropriately and gives approval for funds to be transferred out of the Public Fund account.
For every tax deductible donation we would like to provide you with an official receipt for your tax return, please provide us with your name and address details. In addition, you are welcome to state a preference as to how your gift could be used. We thank you, in advance, for your generous donation to further the development of this festival.
